As the crowd and local primary schools started to flood in, the sirens sounded and the game began, you could feel the anticipation and excitement in the air.The game seemed to be quite evenly matched with both teams scoring and keeping strong defense.
Samoa started off strong, shooting many accurate goals and keeping their points up, Papua New Guinea kept their ground by maintaining a high level of defense against the Samoan boys.
The second quarter began with cheering from the crowd and both teams got pumped for the rest of the game.
The quarter was played really evenly and the scores were almost identical, both teams played strong defense and accurately shooting goals, with 40 seconds left in the quarter the scores were even and the game heated up.
Fagaloia Vaetoe scored 10 points for his team in the first half of the match, very important to his teams score.
With only seconds left in the match, Papua New Guinea scored a few points and took a last minute 2 point lead over Samoa with the final scores; Papua New Guinea 36 to Samoa 34.
The third quarter started off fast after the half time break, all the teams had their energy restored and were ready to go again.
The scores became even before Samoa took the lead, the quarter proceeded and the players became as determined as ever to win this all-important game.
After many bumps and bruises, timeouts, fouls and intense gameplay, the final score for the third quarter came to Samoa 60 to Papua New Guinea 50.
Fourth and final quarter of the match, both teams played a close game, their defense was strong, there were many bumps and pushes and the all round game was close.
With 5 minutes left in the match, Samoa took a lead ahead of Papua New Guinea and scored lots of points, while Papua New Guinea tried their hardest to keep up and over come them.
The match ended with the scores; Samoa 89 to Papua New Guinea 69, Samoa leading by 20 points.
