Vala scored a brilliant 71 before he was dismissed amid controversy. Source: Cricket PNG |
Round five of the Gold Coast Cricket Competition began with some impressive performances with the bat and ball. Assad Vala starred with the bat for Broadbeach Robina CC scoring 71 and was on his way to triple figures before a dubious decision saw him being caught at gully in what looked like a bump ball.
Vala’s innings set the foundation for the competition front runners to post a massive 9/305 as they took apart the Burleigh Heads bowling attack with relative ease. Sese Bau returned with impressive figures of 2/28 which included the controversial wicket of Vala. Queensland country representative and Broadbeach captain, Sean Fitzsimmons bludgeoned a brilliant 114 to help his side get to 305
Burleigh Heads will have their work cut out next week as they look to cause an upset against the league leaders.
Runaway Bay’s Norman Vanua continued his wicket taking form to return with another four wicket haul as they bowled out Mudgeeraba Nerang Districts for 148. Vanua returned with impressive figures of 4/39 off 17.4 overs whilst Charles Amini was unlucky not to have picked up a couple wickets as he returned with economic figures of 0/13 off 8 overs. In reply Runaway Bay is 0/4 at the close of play with Lega Siaka on 1 not out.
Palm Beach were bowled out for 192 by last year’s grand finalist Southport with both Tony Ura (5) & Jack Vare (10) unable to trouble the scorers as they found the going tough against the Southport bowling attack. In reply Southport is 0/17.
